Victoria and Fernando were referred to me by a friend, when she heard Victoria was planning her wedding for June 2016 in Palm Beach, Florida. Victoria contacted me about capturing her wedding day, as well as an engagement session. Victoria and her Fiancé Fernando booked me for their wedding and we began the process of planner a romantic Key Biscayne Engagement Session. Victoria had already made the decision with her fiancé that the Key Biscayne lighthouse would be the ideal location for a very romantic and elegant engagement photography session.
The Key Biscayne lighthouse is located at the southern most point of Key Biscayne inside Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. The entry fee is $8.00 per vehicle and has a beautiful beach, historic lighthouse and original light keepers home on premises. You will also find there are grilling areas and bicycle rentals if you wish to spend a day after your engagement session and 2 great restaurants that offer great food choices and host small to medium sized weddings. A Key Biscayne Engagement session is easy to turn into a day full of activities that are fun after your done with your photography.
We began Victoria and Fernando’s Key Biscayne Engagement session on the walk way leading up to the lighthouse. It is lines with beautiful palms on each side, and creates a canopy that creates soft flattering light. We started with some simple naturally posed images with the lighthouse in the background. I typically start my engagement sessions very light and easy since having your photos taken for the first time can be awkward and uncomfortable. We then worked away towards and around the Key Biscayne Lighthouse and used various spots along the side of the lighthouse to create beautiful pictures that were romantic and elegant, which is my style of engagement and wedding photography. We then wrapped up our Key Biscayne Engagement session for a wardrobe change.
After the wardrobe change we decided to continue Victoria and Fernando’s Key Biscayne engagement session on the other side of the lighthouse on the beach. It was a very windy day not the beach and capturing beautiful photographs a challenge with the blowing sand. As we walked up the beach towards the lighthouse we used the dunes as foreground elements in the engagement photos I captured with the lighthouse in the background. We then made our way to a small jetty composed of large rocks for romantic pictures with the ocean in the background. We then finished Victoria and Fernando’s Key Biscayne engagement session and made our way to our vehicles.
During Victoria and Fernando’s Key Biscayne engagement session, I used my Canon 5D3, Canon 70-200mm 2.8is and Canon 27-40mm 2.8 lenses. I used the 70-200mm 2.8 lens zoomed to over 100mm every opportunity I get got the compression the image gives and beautiful blurry backgrounds. I also use off camera flash lighting to make my images pop. I find that using only natural lighting techniques leaves images a little flat and I want my images to have depth and contrast.
