"Lifestyle Photography" is a phrase that get used quite a bit in the world of photography. You will likely see family photographers using the term, but what does lifestyle photography mean to you?
As a photographer and artist, I am inspired by much of what I see and experience in my daily life. It might be how the sun is setting behind some clouds or the things my kids say or sometimes do. Many times it's memories from my childhood. The things I saw, the things I did, the experiences good and bad. One of the things that inspires me most is the idea of family and love. This is why my photography specialty is wedding photography and it emphasizes romance, love, family and fun. Lifestyle photography can be incorporated in many ways, but mainly to shine light on the dynamics and moments that take place in a persons life.
The days of going to Sears or JC Penny for family portraits is long gone. The days of being perfectly posed and staring into a camera with boring flat and unflattering light is now dead. What people want now is a photographer to step into their lives for a few hours and capture the moments that make their life unique while telling an intimate story of their personal experience.
Lifestyle photography is more about authenticity in a portrait than the perfectly posed and photographed image. It's real life interpreted artistically with a photographers unique style.
