Medellín Colombia Part 3 – Metro, Cable Cars, Parque Arví & Provenza Nightlife
Join us for Part 3 of our Medellín, Colombia father-and-son adventure as we explore one of the most impressive public transportation systems in Latin America.
Our day begins with breakfast before taking an Uber to the Medellín Metro system. Using the Metro and the famous Metrocable gondolas, we travel high above the city toward Parque Arví, a massive ecological preserve located in the mountains overlooking Medellín.
The journey itself is one of the highlights of the trip, offering incredible views of Medellín’s neighborhoods, mountains, and surrounding landscapes while showcasing how the city's innovative transportation system connects communities throughout the region.
After spending time exploring Parque Arví, we return to our hotel to relax before heading out for an unforgettable evening in Provenza, one of Medellín’s most popular nightlife destinations.
During our night out, we unexpectedly reconnect with our friend and tattoo artist La Crespa and her husband. They take us to local spots for food, drinks, and an authentic Medellín nightlife experience before ending the night at La House Del Barrio, where Panamanian artist Mr. Saik performs live.
This episode also highlights how I use credit card rewards and travel strategies to help reduce travel expenses. Throughout the trip, I use various Capital One cards for transportation, dining, entertainment, and everyday purchases to maximize points, miles, and cash back toward future travel.
Medellín Colombia Part 4 Volume 1 – Pueblito Paisa, Comuna 13 & Exploring More of Medellín
Join us for Part 4 of our Medellín, Colombia father-and-son adventure as we continue exploring the city while maximizing travel through credit card points, miles, and everyday spending strategies.
This chapter of the trip begins with a recap of our visit to Parque Arví and a memorable night out in Provenza before heading to one of Medellín’s most iconic viewpoints.
Our first stop is Pueblito Paisa, a replica of a traditional Antioquian town located atop Cerro Nutibara. From here, we enjoy panoramic views overlooking Medellín while learning more about the region’s culture and history.
The adventure continues through the city as we make our way toward Comuna 13, one of the most famous and inspiring neighborhoods in Colombia. Known for its transformation, colorful street art, music, culture, outdoor escalators, and local artists, Comuna 13 has become a must-visit destination for travelers exploring Medellín.
Along the way, we experience everyday life in Medellín, including an unexpectedly long walk through the city while searching for the correct Éxito store for some last-minute shopping before returning home.
One of the highlights of this episode is reaching the upper sections of Comuna 13, where we enjoy lunch, take in incredible city views, and capture stunning aerial drone footage overlooking Medellín and the surrounding mountains.
This episode showcases not only the popular attractions of Medellín but also the unexpected moments that make travel memorable—from local interactions and spontaneous adventures to discovering hidden perspectives of the city.
Medellín Colombia Part 4 Volume 2 – Comuna 13, Drone Footage & Unexpected Adventures
Join us for Part 4 Volume 2 of our Medellín, Colombia father-and-son travel adventure as we dive deeper into one of the city's most famous neighborhoods — Comuna 13.
After exploring Pueblito Paisa in Volume 1, we make our way to Comuna 13, a neighborhood that has become a symbol of transformation, resilience, creativity, and community in Medellín.
Known for its colorful murals, street performers, music, food vendors, local artists, and outdoor escalators, Comuna 13 is one of the most visited attractions in Colombia and offers visitors a unique look at the culture and spirit of Medellín.
As we work our way through the neighborhood, we explore the incredible street art, take in the vibrant atmosphere, and make our way to the upper sections of Comuna 13 where we stop for lunch and enjoy spectacular panoramic views overlooking the city.
One of the highlights of this episode is capturing aerial drone footage above Comuna 13. From high above the neighborhood, the views reveal the scale of Medellín, the surrounding mountains, and the colorful communities that stretch across the valley.
The day takes an unexpected turn after leaving Comuna 13 when we accidentally arrive at the wrong Éxito location while searching for a specific item Matthew wanted to bring home.
Rather than calling another Uber, we decide to walk nearly two and a half miles through Medellín to the correct store. What starts as a simple shopping trip turns into another opportunity to experience the city from a local perspective and see areas of Medellín that most tourists never visit.
The mission? Finding Matthew's highly sought-after bottle of Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind Vodka before our trip comes to an end.
While the destination was important to him, the unexpected walk through Medellín became one of those travel memories that often end up being more memorable than the original plan.
This episode captures the perfect mix of iconic attractions, local culture, drone photography, unexpected adventures, and real travel experiences that make international travel so rewarding.
What Medellín Is REALLY Like in the Morning 🇨🇴 | Plaza Botero Walkthrough
Experience a different side of Medellín as we take an early morning walk through the historic downtown district and visit the famous Plaza Botero.
This bonus episode bridges the gap between Part 2 and Part 3 of our Medellín father-and-son travel series and offers a more authentic look at daily life in the city before the crowds arrive.
The morning begins at our hotel, where I talk about one of my favorite travel clothing brands and why lightweight, comfortable clothing is so important when traveling internationally. After breakfast, Matthew and I take an Uber into downtown Medellín to explore one of the city's most iconic public spaces.
Plaza Botero is home to 23 massive bronze sculptures created by renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero. The oversized sculptures have become one of Medellín’s most recognizable landmarks and attract visitors from around the world.
As we walk through the plaza and surrounding streets, you'll get a real look at what Medellín is like in the morning before many of the shops and attractions become busy.
This video also highlights an important travel tip for visitors.
While Plaza Botero is one of Medellín’s most famous attractions and is generally safe for tourists who stay aware of their surroundings, the downtown area can also have visible homelessness, drug use, and petty crime—especially as the day progresses. Like many major cities around the world, situational awareness is important when exploring the area.
For us, the experience provided an opportunity to see a side of Medellín that many travel videos don't always show.
The city is vibrant, historic, artistic, and full of life, but it also faces challenges that travelers should understand before visiting.
After exploring Plaza Botero and the surrounding streets, we make our way to the Medellín Metro system and begin our journey toward Parque Arví, which continues in Part 3 of the series.
This episode is perfect for travelers researching Medellín, Colombia and wanting a realistic look at one of the city's most famous downtown attractions.
